Topic:Abraham who stood on the top of Moriah mountain.
(Genesis 22:1-19)
Today this text is the most dramatic climax in Abraham's whole life.
And it shows us about him who was on the point of top in his faithful life.
And it teaches us how high we Christian should grow up in our faith.
It says how we should live and what the result of life is.
Today we see two things through this story that he offered Him his son as a sacrificial offering.
First. It is God's test of Him.
1-2 Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, "Abraham!  "Here I am," he replied.  2 Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about."
We can see in this text God tested him.
2 Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about."
Specially, God emphasized mightily to tell him His commandment correctly, seriously,
So He expressed like this "your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love,"
By the way, when we see the expression like this, we can get God knew how much Abraham loved his son.
Nevertheless, God tested him seriously because of his son.
God asked him to offer his son as a burnt offering on Moriah mountain.
It is that God said to him to kill his son and cut in pieces, and burn as a sacrificial offering.
It came to Abraham like a bolt from the blue sky.
Do you know what his son was ?
As God said, Abraham loved him too much ? He was his only son.
A poet, Seo Jeong-ju sang in his poetry, likewise you don't know how long the Chinese scops owl wept to flower just one national flower.
Abraham also got his only son, after he suffered a lot of frustrations and disappointments for getting the son for 25 years.
Moreover, he begot the son at 100 through the work of God's miracle.
And because of his beloved son he suffered the trial that had to give up Hagal and Ismeal.
So now there was barely getting good and safe in his family.
By the way, suddenly God tested him terribly, severely. Did He joke with the son ?
God gave him the son, and God said to him to offer his son. What did it mean ?
Most people may depart from God in such a case complaining God.
But I want you not to depart from God in any situation. I know the great will of God is hidden in the great test.
By the way, his agony was so really big at that situation, but we find that this text did not talk about his agony with no one word in the text.
But in verse 3 said, "3 Early the next morning Abraham got up and saddled his donkey. ......... he set out for the place God had told him about.
Also verse4 said, "On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance."
And verse 6 said, "Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. "
7verse said, "Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, "Father?"
      "Yes, my son?" Abraham replied.
"The fire and wood are here," Isaac said, "but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?"
At that time he could not say that you are the very offering, instead of that he said that God will provide for Himself.
Today this text wrote all about his actions correctly, but in fact he must have suffered from his inner heart.
I also took officiating at the wedding for other daughters so many times. at that moment I was not sad. But after my daughter got married my mind was so hard during about one month.
You know I served as a chaplain for a long time in the army of Korea. At that time I saw soldiers without thinking to worry. But when my son entered the military, my mind was so really difficult.
Two years ago I went to my friend's church in Budapest. At that time when I was preaching the gospel there, as I saw many students attended, I wept so much to see my son at home.
This is the very heart of parents.
Now days I used to take an international call with my son in every Sunday night.
I used to wait for this time joyfully.
During that time we used to talk each other about self-concern.
When he told me that father, last week the anatomy test was so great. And next week I will have the test of disease embryology.
I prayed diligently for him just as I take the test.
I felt as I was studying and testing instead of my son.
Maybe I think I will try to do so for sons and daughters like this.
So I may understand about Abraham's mind that can not find in this text.
Perhaps Abraham and his wife could not sleep entirely at that night that they should surrender their son to God.
Sarai might weep all night, and her husband might pray all night.
They had to obey the command of God, but it might not be easy for him to give up his son.
He might complain God from his heart. And he might have a lot of conflict to give his son, or not to give.
So he got up early morning but his eyes might not so good.
And he might feel like 30years distance to go to that mountain, but 3days are enough.
At last he arrived at the foot of Moriah mountain, he might be weeping when he looked to that mountain.
And when Isaac asked his father about where the ram is, his mind might be very hard to hear his son's question.
The amazing thing is that he obeyed God's word even in such inner anguish and conflict, and suffering and sorrow.
Isaac also obeyed just like his father.
Perhaps, at that time Isaac's age might be about 10, his father's age might be 120.
Nevertheless Isaac obeyed even though his father was going to slay his son with the knife.
So at that moment Abraham obeyed by faith, and then what was the meaning of Isaac's obedience ?
Isaac's obedience was like Jesus' obedience who died on the cross.
Isaac also went up to the mountain taking the wood prepared for his death just as Jesus went up to the hill of Golgotha bearing the cross.
Likewise, they showed the example of their best obedience to God.
Can we obey like them ?
Specially can we obey like this when God asks us to offer ?
Can we offer our sons to be the offering for martyrdom ?
Can you give your son to God as Hanna gave her son, Samuel ?
Can you surrender your property to the poor like Bannabas ?
1 Corinthians 13:3 Can I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames ?
Micah 6:7 Shall we offer thousands of rams and ten thousand rivers of oil to God ?
Mark 10:29 Like Jesus' word, can we give up our home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for Jesus and the gospel ?
John 12:24-25 Like a kernel of wheat can we fall to the ground and die ? Can we hate our life in this world ?
 Can you confess like Job ? Job 1:21 The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away;
may the name of the LORD be praised."
I think it is very hard, but I want you to obey the word of God from the light things with a habitation.
1 Samuel 15:22  But Samuel replied:
"Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices
as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD
To obey is better than sacrifice,
and to heed is better than the fat of rams.
From now on I want you to be persons of obedience like Abraham until death.
Think about Abraham.
He did the best to obey the God's requirement with his all strength and his passion that could not do for himself.
As a result he took the best obedience.
If I will obey God's requirement in logic, who can not obey it ?
And Abraham gave up his son and gave his best precious gift to God.
So he was grown up to the best level of faith.
And then What is the reason that he obeyed with this amazing faith and obedience?

Firstly. Abraham's faith and obedience was because he feared the Lord.
Genesis 22:12 "Do not lay a hand on the boy," he said. "Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son."
In this verse we can see that God said to him that "I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son."
Therefore we can know his faith and obedience came from fearing the Lord.
And then where did his fearing of God come from ?
It came from his knowledge about God.
And then where did it come from ?
It came from learning until now about what God is and what relationship I have with God.
So as a result of his knowledge of God, he knew that God is bigger than his son's life.
So he could obey the word of God greatly.
Therefore today we also should know that we can obey in comparison with fearing God.
That is, the size of obedience is relative to the size of fearing God.
Therefore I want you to know He is God of greatness, and to fear Him greatly, and to obey Him radically.
Secondly. His obedience came from the faith that God will save his son.
So in 5 verse, He said to his servants, "Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you."
He used "we" that is the plural form.
It is that he could say like this because of his faith that his son can be risen.
He already believed that God will save his son from the death.
In Romans 4:17, he said that He is the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were.
Hebrews 11:17 said, By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son,
His faith is that though he dies he will live again, though my son dies but God will raise his son, my son will be risen from the death.
Today we also have to get the faith like him.
We must be a person of such faith that though we die we can live, though we perish we can do again, though we fail we can succeed, though we fall we will rise, though we have nothing it does matter.
If we become the person of such faith, we can be the person of great obedience.
Secondly. His faith and obedience is the result.
He got the good fruits as he overcame the terrible test of God.
 1) He received the great admiration from God because of his great faith.
verse 12 " Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son."
verse 16 because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,
2) His faith was proved by God.
verse 12 "Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son."
He was proved by God about his faith fearing the Lord.
3) he experienced the Lord's Jirah.
13 Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram] caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, "On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided."
God prepared for the real offering instead of his own son.
Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns, so Abraham called the name of the place "Lord's Jirah". which means "the Lord will provide, the Lord will protect".
Likewise. It is God's promise that God prepares all things for all those who obey by faith.
Through this event God taught him one more about Himself.
It is that He is God of "Lord's Jirah".
 4) He got the blessing of prosperity of descendants.
Genesis 22:17 I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore.
5)It said that his descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies,
verse 17, "Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies,"
24:60 said, "your offspring possess the gates of their enemies."
It means the promise of victory for descendants.
So if they fought against enemy they became the victorious men.
As they entered the door of city was opened. when they went, enemies opened the door and escaped far away.
6) Your descendants will be a bridge of blessing for all nations.
verse 18 said, "through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed,"
And the reason of this blessing is revealed once again to us. It was because of his obedience to the word of God.
verse 18 said, "because you have obeyed me."
Today these words are available to everyone.
Today, we will be blessed like these blessings, when we offer our precious lives to God in faith and obedience.
I want all of you to be the persons of blessing like this.
May God bless you !

Can you confess like Job ? Job 1:21 The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away;
may the name of the LORD be praised."
I think it is very hard, but I want you to obey the word of God from the light things with a habitation. From now on I want you to be persons of obedience like Abraham until death.
1 Samuel 15:22  But Samuel replied:
"Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices
as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD ?
To obey is better than sacrifice,
and to heed is better than the fat of rams.
